OPUS/R™ is an ARTS compliant database that allows retailers to use standard database query tools for ad-hoc reporting in real-time. The system has the capability to run in three ways:

1. Distributed with databases in each store
2. Populate a data warehouse in the central office
3. Both distributed and centralized

The database is built in real-time as part of the transaction log updates to the server. However, OPUS does not depend upon the availability of the database in order to provide POS functionality. This provides retailers highly increased availability and recovery in the event of power failure or other difficulties in the store.
